Being of the Boomer generation, we began to study the housing situation of that demographic and recognized a substantial need. Whether you already own the home of your dreams or are planning to build, everyone is faced with this question:
"Will I always be able to get into and around our home or could it become a trap if a member of my family encountered a mobility issue, whether from injury, disease or aging, at some point in the future?"
Based on our experience and feedback from homeowners we have reorganized our separate companies into a unified effort focused on addressing these needs.
While some may choose to build or remodel, others may need to relocate and modify. Whatever your requirement, we have the experience and tools to complete the task.
Tapestry Custom Homes LLC
Bill is joined by his wife Judy in the day-to-day operations of Tapestry. She manages the office while exploring new ideas, products and procedures that support the company's ongoing commitment to elevate accessibility concepts in the homebuilding industry.
We are always looking to improve our service and our product through educational opportunities offered by the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) as well as the HBA of Greater Dallas. Bill holds numerous national designations including Green Building Professional (CGP) which he received in 2008.
While we maintain a small inventory of lots in Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, we will build on your lot or ours.
Transitions by Tapestry
In May of 2000, the AARP released its landmark study Fixing to Stay. It points out the over 80% of those over age 45 desire to stay in their homes as long as possible, but a large percentage of those say that they either have or will need to make modifications to their homes to continue to live in them safely.
As a result of this study, AARP and the NAHB established a course of study to equip builders and remodelers to understand the typical problems of working with America's aging housing stock and the maturing of the Boomer generation.
Graduates of this course were awarded a designation by the NAHB known as Certified Aging In Place Specialist (CAPS). Both Bill and Judy hold this designation.
As remodelers we undertake a wide variety of projects including energy upgrades, whole house projects including "mother-in-law suites" as well as additions.
A growing niche of our business are home modifications that provide access into and around the home as well as restoring functionality to bathrooms and the kitchens which may pose as barriers for those with mobility impairments. Other common modifications may include:
Levered plumbing and door hardware
Pull out shelving
Grab bars in wet areas
Closet modifications
New flooring to accommodate chairs or walkers
Improved lighting
Lowering electrical switches and raising plugs
Warm floors
Our remodeling operations have also won their share of awards and accolades including NAHB CAPS Builder of the Year for 2007.
